Klein was the editor of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone Magazine for its first 37 issues, from April 1981 to July/August 1985 many stories from 1981-1982 are assembled as Great Stories from Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone Magazine (anth 1982) edited by Klein. Short fiction is collected in Dark Gods (coll 1985) – where his World Fantasy Award-winning novella "Nadelman's God" first appeared – and Reassuring Tales (coll 2006 exp vt Reassuring Tales: Expanded Version 2021). Klein's well-received horror novel is The Ceremonies ( 1984), which won a British Fantasy Award as best novel.
